• Malaysia Airports to be taken private by consortium led by Khazanah, EPF

  The acquisition would have an offer price of 11 ringgit per share, implying an equity value of 18.4 billion ringgit (USD 3.91 billion), and representing a 15.2 per cent premium to the prevailing three-month volume weighted average price of 9.55 ringgit per share, the companies said. The consortium said it planned to position MAHB for long-term sustainable growth, focusing on the maintenance and upgrade of airport infrastructure, enhancing passenger service levels and improving airline connectivity.

  

• US says Boeing can be prosecuted for 737 MAX crashes

  Boeing breached obligations under an agreement that had shielded it against legal proceedings for the accidents, department officials said in a letter to a federal court in Texas. Boeing told AFP "we believe that we have honored the terms of that agreement" and said that it plans to defend itself.

  

• Portugal to build new airport across the river from Lisbon

  The new airport will be built at the site of a military airfield in Alcochete, about 40 km (25 miles) east of Lisbon, and should the ready by 2034. This location has been favoured by an independent technical commission, which had studied several possible sites. The new airport will replace Lisbon's Humberto Delgado airport, just near the city centre, but the current airport will be expanded while the new airport is being built.

  

• US airlines forecast record 2024 summer travel, up 6.3% over last year

  Airlines for America said Tuesday that US carriers plan to fly more than 26,000 daily flights this summer, up nearly 1,400 over 2023, or 5.6 per cent, when they carried 255 million passengers. The summer travel season forecast is for June 1 to Aug. 31. American Airlines said it will boost flights by 10 per cent this summer.

  

• Boeing orders tumble as troubled aircraft maker struggles to overcome its latest crisis

  As expected, deliveries of new Boeing jetliners were weak, at 24 in April, pushing the U.S. company farther behind Airbus, its European rival. Through the first four months of the year, Airbus has delivered 203 commercial planes, compared with 107 for Boeing. Deliveries are an important source of cash for the companies.

  The Zayed Airport recently got a new terminal. The US CBP is currently housed in the old terminal. “This September the CBP will move to the new terminal that will, among other things, have a dedicated first and business class lounge especially for pre-cleared (to US) passengers. Also we have deepened our partnership with two US carriers — American Airlines and Jet Blue.

  

• Air India boosts European connectivity with increased flight to Amsterdam, Milan & Copenhagen

  These additional flights complement Air India’s existing daily, non-stop services to Zurich from June 16, 2024, as well as daily services to Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). This expansion aims to enhance inbound and outbound passenger traffic and cargo flows between India and Europe. With the increased frequency to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Milan, Air India will now operate 80 flights a week to and from seven points in mainland Europe.

  "Changing 'Metropolitan' to 'San Francisco Bay' in Oakland Airport's name accurately describes OAK's geographic location on the Bay and presents the airport as an additional choice for travel into the San Francisco Bay Area," said port attorney Mary Richardson on Thursday, announcing the lawsuit. The San Francisco city attorney's decision to pursue litigation "is an attempt to stop consumer education, prevent expanded air travel options for Bay Area residents and visitors, and is a misguided use of San Francisco taxpayer dollars," she added.

  

• Air Vanuatu cancels flights as government considers voluntary administration

  ​​"The Vanuatu Government is now considering placing Air Vanuatu ... into voluntary administration," and Ernst & Young has been appointed to advise the government, the statement said. Air Vanuatu operates only four aircraft between the country's islands - which rely heavily on tourism - and to Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific islands.

  The Border Force explained that the outage began around 7 : 50 p.m. Tuesday, affecting eGates, which are automated systems that speed up the processing of arriving passengers. Despite the disruption, the agency assured that there was no evidence of a cyberattack, and border security remained uncompromised throughout the incident.
