• Pilgrimage tourism, one of growth engines of country's economic development: Mizoram Governor

  "The efforts of Honourable Prime Minister to develop these temple corridors is to encourage pilgrimage tourism. Pilgrimage tourism is one of the growth engines for economic development," Kambhapati said speaking to on Thursday at Varanasi. The Mizoram Governor had come to Varanasi to attend a seminar on the "Contribution of Temple Economy and Religious Area Development to National Progress" organized in the Trimbakeshwar Auditorium of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor.

  

• New tourist zone created in Ram Nagar forest division

  The entry and exit points of the new tourist zone spread over an area of 26 km have been kept at Bhandarpani Gate, he said. Though operational since March 22, the opening of the new zone was a low key affair as the model code of conduct was in force, Nayak said.

  

• Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve to remain closed for tourists from May 15

  In a notice, the Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division said, "The Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari for visitors/tourists in Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve shall remain closed with effect from May 15, 2024 for the tourist season 2024-25 until further notice." Earlier, the Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve authority said that the elephant safari in the national park will remain closed for visitors and tourists from May 1 and the Jeep safari from May 16.

  

• Madras HC directs issuance of e-pass to vehicles entering Nilgiris and Kodaikanal

  The bench said the authorities can exempt the vehicles of local residents, commercial vehicles regularly carrying agricultural products by issuing an appropriate notification. The bench said it was needless to say that e-passes either have to be valid for one entry or if it was for multiple entries, there must be a related provision.

  

• Over 1.96 lakh tourists including foreigners visited Mizoram in 2023

  With 1,162 tourists, Americans topped the list of foreigners visiting the northeastern state, it said, adding that tourists from other foreign countries including Japan, Australia, Israel, Canada and the United Kingdom, also visited Mizoram last year.The tourist footfall in 2022-23 was over 2.22 lakh of which 2.18 lakh were domestic tourists and 3,551 were foreigners.

  He said,"We have assessed and analyzed all the arrangements. And whatever preparations were necessary, all the preparations have been done. The number of pilgrims in the Yatra is increasing every year, so there should be a good Yatra... till now around 16 lakh people have registered for the Yatra."

  

• Leh-Manali National Highway reopens for traffic after 5 months

  A Leh-based defence spokesperson said the road was opened for vehicular traffic by the BRO after the completion of the snow clearance operation. "The entire snow clearance operation was executed by 111 Road Construction Company (RCC) and 753 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) under Project HIMANK of BRO, in Ladakh region and 70 RCC and 38 BRTF under Project Deepak in Himachal Pradesh."

  The MEA memorandum dated April 4 said, "The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to accept 'revocation certificate' as an alternative document in lieu of 'surrender certificate' in case of Indian nationals hailing from the erstwhile Portuguese territories in India, who have acquired Portuguese nationality as per Portuguese Nationality Law."
